Update 04 August 2025
The Atol Aurora prototype spun its propeller for the second time today and is now ready for 20 additional ground tests before taxiing tests, which will ultimately lead to the first flight.
"Throughout this three-stage process, we need to submit numerous documents to EASA, which is overseeing the Atol Aurora project," says project manager Juha Koskinen.
EASA is the European Union Aviation Safety Agency. It reviews documentation and ensures the prototype meets safety and airworthiness requirements before flight testing and certification. Atol Aurora will be the first ever Finnish certified civil aircraft.

As you can see from these happy faces, everything went smoothly. The wings are now attached — unlike during the first engine run-up. Wings are definitely needed for flying! 🙂
You might also notice several wires in the background. In this prototype aircraft, all cables are exposed for easy access. In production models, they’ll be neatly concealed behind panels.
